So say you like to keep learning what you can from dancers you see & admire...

when you see a dancer whose work is stunning, do you find out who trained her & take a workshop from them?
or
Do you think is would be more beneficial (as in bang for your buck) to study with the girl you saw (are you getting the best of all the master dancers who trained her?)

On the one hand, a great dancer isn't automatically a great teacher- but on the other- if she trained with two great instructors wouldn't it be likely her training would reflect that? And if she isn't *yet* as famous as these instructors she studied under, it is quite possible that though she is *potnentially* offering more (input from both)...her class is likely to be less money than getting a workshop from either of the big names?

Just interested... what would you do in this instance?

You need to "interview" the dancer. Sure, she may have studied under 2 admirable dancers, but perhaps what she did is HER OWN! You have to find out to get what it is that you are looking for!

I agree that you have to do your homework. There is a greater likelihood that the instructors of the dancer are better at training because they have been at it longer. Not many teachers mentor their students how to teach, so I would think that odds are the instructors are better at teaching than the student. This isn't always the case though. Some students are so gifted that they get things without the benefit of good break down and are able to teach kind of intuitively. So, i think that doing some investigation is wise. I have hired a few teachers based on their dance ability and was disappointed, but that's been rare. Had I done my due diligence, that could have been avoided.

Don't get swept off your feet by someone who is an awesome dancer and don't discount someone who isn't stunning on stage. Sounds like you get that part though.

I say all of the above...

Example - Rachel George.. trained [partially anyway] by Aziza. 2 completely different dancers by interpretation. So if you sought the teacher - you would see and get out of it something different.
My primary teacher is Aisha Ahroosh - she has taught myself and another dancer Taroob for the last several years under the same schedule.. we are completely different dancers in style.

You will get out of it from what goes into your soul and what you are able to release as an artist. Seek everyone who inspires you and absorb.. then find your inner dancer and be yourself.
