Studio drama

I'm a little frustrated right now. The studio where I have been teaching is a yoga studio & they have decided to close (which I totally understand). What I find so frustraiting is they only gave us 5 weeks notice.

It looks like I will have a place for for baby beginners thanks to a good friend but I am worried about finding a place for my intermediate dancers who have been working soooooo hard. I am hoping the new studio will give me a 90 minute time slot for an intermediate class but who knows...

I have dealt with this at another yoga studio & it drives me nuts that they give their dance teachers such short notice. The wind has gone out of my sails...

    Dear Magdelena,
Oh, best wishes to you! I would just cry if the studio where I teach closed. I have been there for ever and the idea of looking for a new place is scary. I have taught at only three other places, the YWCA, a studio I owned with two other women and another studio where Yoga and other movement arts were taught. I have been at this place for a very ling time now.
I hope everything works out perfectly for you, and that you find a place that is just right!
    Regards,
    A'isha

Oh, hugs!! I know how frustrating that is! & it probably doesn't help that sometimes the businesses don't have much more notice than you do...

even without places closing down I've done way too much studio hopping & yeah, a full 90 minute slot that actually works with anyone's schedule is hard to wrangle. Heres hoping you find an even better spot than before!

at least they gave you 5 weeks!! In this economy, it's not unusual to show up for class and the place is closed down - no notice, no nothin', which happened to a friend of mine. Or, another gym sent out an email the day before - which happened to me... blah...

    good luck finding space!

Check out local Community Education locations such as school cafeterias, the school secretary can usually direct you to the right person to talk to. Also Senior Centers are often available at night as the Senior activities are many times during the day.
Our Troupe practices at one for two hours at a very low fee per hour with a three month contract. It makes it nice for all and there's plenty of room. Creativity is the key, if all else fails, call the City Manager in your area and ask for suggestions, where there is a will there is a way!

Once I was told on the day of my class that the studio was closed! And I had paid for the month in advance!

Thankfully my students didnt mind changing the day and moving to a studio 20 minutes further away!

I feel you Alison, I have had that happen before as well... It really does stink!

On a positive note, I met w/ the studio owner & it looks like we are going to start classes next month. The bonus is she has room for both of my classes! This is such great news , I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Also looks like there will be room for the occasional weekend specialty class

The only downside it's going to be a drive for some of my students
