How much do you charge for:

And anything else.
What your prices for different times like 10 minutes for $80 or what?
Thanks

Re: How much do you charge for?
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 9:07 AMI'm also curious how much everyone charges for private lessons.
What do you include in the lessons? Are they geared for learning
basics? training a performer? just for fun? Are they priced differently for
the different purposes?

Re: How much do you charge for?
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 11:52 AMI think this is going to change a lot from area to area depending on the "going rate" for these types of services. Samira Shuruk has an excellent article regarding rates at her website. www.samirashuruk.com/standar...nes.html
My performance rates are posted on my website at www.sarabeaman.com/perf.html . I live in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, which is a mainly suburban complex of two mediumish and several other smallish cities. My rates are actually on the expensive side for my area (not because I'm full of myself or think I'm a better dancer than the other dancers around here, but I'm so busy that I feel my free time is really at a premium). -

Re: How much do you charge for?
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 1:03 PMThanks for posting my links Sara. :)
Nicole- at the bottom of the article on my site is a link to a "typical rates page" with rates from all over the country. :) It's be a great idea to ask your teacher/mentor what to do and also ask other performers in your area. Some people are a little sensitive about discussing their own rates- so working your questions carefully such as "I don't want to undercut, can you please tell me what people are charging around here at various venues as well as how long their typical shows are at those prices?"
Shira also has lots of info on going pro: www.shira.net
...and I have more links here: www.samirashuruk.com/perform...ism.html -

Re: How much do you charge for?
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 5:03 PMWhen looking at other peoples rates, look at your own needs too. I talked to one gal who won't raise her rates because she doesn't consider herself a top level instructor (she is well qualified, btw, but not 'big name') she charges around $20 for private lessons- but there is no way I could match that! $20 would barely cover gas & babysitting for me, so not worth my time. figuring out your own prices should take what others are charging into consideration, but it is only part of the equation!
hope this helps. -

Re: How much do you charge for?
Sat, May 31, 2008 - 9:01 AM$20 for a private? Lara, that girl is underestimating the value of her time and education. If she doesn't feel "worth" what others are charging she shouldn't be teaching. By charging so little unfortunately she is negatively effecting her whole community. What a shame. -

Tue, June 3, 2008 - 8:01 AMI'm no big name by any means and I definitely think that 20$ for a private is WAY too low!
