Hey, Dance Sisters--

There is a dance step that I've been shown before but can't quite remember how to do--it's a step where the dancer appears to be gliding across the stage? Know what I'm talking about? Please remind me of the mechanics.

Thanks, fellow instructors, I'm drawing a blank on this one.

Shimmies!

You're on releve taking TINY little steps to the side and you can cross one foot just barely in front of the other.

there is another one where you slide your feet on the floor, right toe and left heel and the same time so your feet are in a V and then left toe and right heel at the same time so they are pigon toed, so you keep sliding your toes and heels in and out so your heels meet then your toes meet. it should make a very smooth glide.

Tiny quick steps with knees bent to absorb any shock make you appear to glide. In my opinion, the bent knees are crucial.

I have heard of the other glide mentioned referred to as a V glide or a Persian Glide..... also used to be part of the dance calle The Charleston. My grandmother and my mother both taught me versions of this one.

With so much fusion, there are also the glides that are akin to the "moonwalk". A whole different mechanic that you can find instructions for on youtube under hip-hop gliding. It is pretty involved to type out, so take a look if interested.

    Undulations!
