I currently offer a prenatal bellydance class in my area, which is especially lovely at the moment since I am pregnant with my third kidlet. However, I got a request for some private lessons from a gal who is not currently pregnant. I have some concerns that since I am at the moment 5 months along, and only going to get bigger, that when I show her movements they will look different enough on me that it will be harder to display (the differences int he way my body moves while pregnant and not are enough to perhaps be a bit confusing to the beginning dancer).
Has anyone else had this experience? What are yor thoughts? ideas? hints? sources/resources for further info about teaching non-pregnant gals while you are pregnant?
Thanks! for your thoughts and experiences.

Re: teaching while pregnant
Tue, April 21, 2009 - 4:18 PMwhen I taught while pregnant, there were a few things I had to learn how to verbalize more, but since you can see what SHE is doing (and especially since it is a private lesson where you can adress things individually) it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I remember my old ballet instructor walking around the studio with a cane, & yet he was able to communicate clearly what we were supposed to do- so I never really saw being unable to perform a certain move as a prohibition to teaching. good thing I had practice with the pregnancy- I have since taught thru major illnesses & injuries & students were still satisfied and progressed well. so look at it as a learning opportunity for yourself as well! -

Re: teaching while pregnant
Tue, April 21, 2009 - 8:57 PMI remember teaching while pregnant. I am a hands on teacher.... literally. If someone was not getting a move, I would kneel on a pillow, tell them to get into whatever position and loosen up for me to put them in the right place.... start, middle, end. There were several moves I couldn't do after a certain point. -

Re: teaching while pregnant
Tue, April 21, 2009 - 9:06 PMCan't beat that! I find that when I move my body in one direction, my big belly will often go in the other direction *lol* So a hands on approach would certianly help that. Thanks for your response. :)

Wed, April 22, 2009 - 7:40 PMI just loved it when I was trying to demonstrate something and you could see where he was pushing one of his feet against me! The girls were saying, "OMG! Is that his foot?"
